Identity Digital is proud to be in our second year of being a Principal Sponsor for the auIGF (previously NetThing), to be held from 28-29 October 2024.
The forum will be a hybrid event held online and at Rydges, Melbourne over two days. The program offers an intriguing range of sessions relating to this year’s theme, “Connecting local to global – Connecting Australian community and policy debates to the region and the world”. There will also be time to reflect on the Position Paper, a new initiative in 2024, aimed at compiling community feedback on issues of concern for the Australian internet community.
The forum will discuss progress relating to internet governance around the world (e.g. GDC and WSIS+20), the multilingual internet, challenges of cybersecurity and protecting our data, connecting across APAC, disinformation and misinformation and more.
In addition, we are also sponsoring the 2023 recipients of the Indigenous Leaders Internet Governance and Policy Fellowship to attend auIGF 2024. One of these recipients is Susan Beetson, who is playing a strategic role in defining what the fellowship will look like in the years to come.
“It’s important that this Indigenous fellowship continues to encourage involvement, and creates opportunities that facilitate meaningful outcomes, from those within and those interested in the digital empowerment and wellbeing of Indigenous communities throughout Australia. Internet Governance has become critical to the way we operate in our daily lives and underpins all aspects of Indigenous futures in this digitally connected world.”
Susan, a chief investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures at The University of Queensland, will be leading a panel on ‘Indigenous Australia - Building Digital Availability, Access and Affordability’, featuring panellists who have a blend of lived experience, professional practice and who have completed research in and with remote, urban, and rural communities. Panellists will discuss how they have been impacted by digital availability, accessibility, and affordability.
Ram Mohan, Chief Strategy Officer at Identity Digital highlights the value in this session.
“Susan has done a brilliant job in bringing together an experienced group of voices to discuss a topic that is vital in promoting open, inclusive discussions about Internet Governance within Australian communities. Having this panel at auIGF invites a broader audience to consider this pivotal issue and enables an understanding amongst both regional and global forums.”
With the auIGF 2024 happening on Monday, we are looking forward to hearing from a range of leading voices from across different sectors including government, academia, civil society and the technical community. If you haven’t yet, register your attendance at auigf.au today.
