Today we look at the most viewed blog posts of 2020, a big year for Afilias Australia, and one that we’re sure that no one will ever forget. As we worked from home for much of it, business continued as usual minus the in-person events and meetings, and it was interesting to look back on the content that stood out to our readers.
Afilias completes largest bulk transfer between .au registrar groups to date
A major announcement was made in early June, when Afilias completed the largest bulk transfer ever recorded in .au by registrar groups. This event saw over 470,000 domain names being consolidated from 3 Arq Group entities (now Webcentral Group) into one CentralNic PLC group, a process that occurred over two separate transfers in late May. This was a tremendous effort from everyone involved, both in meeting the technical requirements and ensuring that all parties were clear on the process.
The State of cybersecurity for Australian businesses
In July, we collaborated with .au registrar and corporate brand services provider, CSC to publish a post on The State of Cybersecurity for Australian Businesses, including tips and tricks to stay safe. This post came soon after a foreign cyberattack on Australian government institutions, serving as a reminder for businesses to rethink their cybersecurity strategy and consider following the below best practices to stay safe:
- Applying registry lock
- Implementing DNSSEC
- Enabling 2 Factor Authentication
- Considering SSL
Insights from the APTLD77 Members Meeting, Melbourne 2020
In February 2020 (prior to work from home restrictions being enforced), the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain (APTLD) association held their APTLD77 Members Meeting in Melbourne, which was hosted by our friends at .au Domain Administration (auDA). Attendees enjoyed presentations on topics including registry relations, marketing, governance and compliance as well as an Afilias sponsored dinner at West Beach Bathers Pavilion, located right on the beach in St Kilda.
Registrar Profile: Education Services Australia
Earlier this year, we got in touch with .au registrar and not-for-profit education solutions provider Education Services Australia to ask them about the specialty service they provide to Australian educational institutions. General Manager, Rachel Elliot spoke to us about their sole focus of improving student outcomes, enhancing teacher impact and strengthening school communities and their digital resources.
In Convo: Selina Tomasich from hairaid.org.au
Our first .org.au blog post in our “In Convo” series was a hit! Selina’s incredible story of the Hair Aid journey is very inspirational, as her team strives to teach the skill of hairdressing in disadvantaged international and local communities. Selina shared with us their reason for establishing an online presence, which has significantly helped in amplifying the organisation’s message.
See you in 2021!
As 2020 wraps up, we would like to thank our readers, industry partners and the rest of the Australian internet community for your interest, collaboration and feedback in ensuring .au is the trusted ccTLD that it is today.
We are looking forward to what 2021 will bring!
